Another late night to come
Drifting in and out of consciousness, slave to the monitor - the profound mundanity of parenting
As I sit here with a cup of tea, I'm on watch again since the girls aren't settled. I'll hear every cough on the monitor overnight and wonder if it's time to go downstairs or not. Our youngest daughter mentioned having a tummy ache, and today, there were several instances when she seemed close to vomiting. Kindy called me at 11:30 saying she wasn't looking too good and that I might need to pick her up. She didn't last past 12:45 but was upset about leaving early due to a kid departing today; however, she looked in no condition to stay.
When we arrived home, our power had been cut for local maintenance which prevented her from watching Bluey—her usual comfort show—but she flopped anyway despite protesting about being home. To cheer them up, I made pancakes for dinner as a treat; although not as good as their mum's recipe, they enjoyed it with raspberries, maple syrup, and whipped cream.
I anticipate another night on the edge of consciousness and doubt much will be accomplished this week. It seems unlikely our youngest will attend swimming lessons tomorrow morning; instead, after dropping off our middle daughter at school we'll spend the day doing various activities at home while listening to plenty of coughing.
