There's a reason why I haven't said much about AI
There's so much going on, it's hard to know where to start. So, I'm upskilling. Because it's those who walk between the old and the new who lead the way for others.
If there was ever a topic that Noise Reduction should be writing about, it’s the current kerfuffle about AI.
But where do you start? What’s the signal I’m trying to discern?
If you’re interested, here’s a couple of links that bring the zeitgeist of the current concerns and uses - but like I said, it’s all moving very fast. But maybe it’s neither apocalyptic or world changing - more like something in between. But that doesn’t make for a very good headline does it?
If you’re anything like me, maybe you feel like all the coverage is a touch overwhelming. The temptation then is to turn away, to dismiss it as over-hyped and something that does not interest you. Problem is, it interests others. Powerful others. It’s not going away. It’s here and it’s better if we can find ways to pay attention.
So that’s what I’m going to do? At the weekend, I’m starting a 6 week course to discover how I can use ChatGPT. It will cover learning how to write code, and leveraging ChatGPT to build prototype models and automate workflows. I’ll find out what that last sentence actually means during the first few days of the course too, I hope.
I’m interested in what is possible, and learning the language and vocabulary about what is going on in this world. I’m interested in how to understand what is happening and to learn how to speak and converse in this new world.
I’m interested in learning how to use prompts to get the best out of ChatGPT and similar surfaces to the underlying tech. Because, as always, it is those who can understand both the old and the new who act as translators and facilitators for everyone else.
This is no different.
So, I will be posting weekly on my reflections on what I have learned and what I think about it. It all starts this weekend, but I have some prep work to do today. Off I go.
