Kia ora koutou - Harminder here. This is a great idea, Sarb! I live in Auckland and am a university lecturer in business information systems. My wife and I have been in NZ for 10 years plus and are originally from Singapore. My two daughters keep me busy most days, and I also volunteer with a local Sikh youth group. Looking forward to sharing ideas :-)

Hi All,

Thanks Catarina and Adrian for your intros. I am in the midst of re-education. Moving along from education into mental health/ counselling. During this journey I have been reconnecting with things that I used to love but for what ever reason have stopped doing. I'm diving in to old school printmaking and Bush walking at the moment. I am Welly based. I have had to pause this year of study to support learning at home while we shield from (waves hands 😂). Sarb I have really enjoyed reading your most recent book. In the theme of connecting 'Finding Calm' has reminded me of knowledge that had been filed away but also motivating me to explore the new and unknown. I'm looking forward to being part of this community. 😊

Hey Em - thanks for chiming in and letting us know more about you - and a wave to you as a fellow Wellingtonian too. Bush-walking is a fine past-time indeed, wherever in NZ or the the wider world. I love hearing the familiar sounds of the birds, and hearing new unfamiliar sounds too when I'm walking farther afield. Thanks for your kind comments about 'Finding Calm' - the first public event I did talking about it on Aotea Great Barrier Island was such a great experience.

Hi folks, following on from Catarina: (Hi Catarina)

By day I lead a team of mental health warriors in Christchurch, and a cyclist, husband, father and creative in the gaps that work leaves behind

Currently on the cusp of being resident in NZ for just over half my life, so feeling almost native.

I am grateful for the opportunity to tap into some of the other knowledge that you (Sarb) publish and connect me too. Thanks

Hi Adrian - interesting the residency span you posted about. I worked out that I've been in NZ now for over half my adult life now. Not quite as long a proportion as you, but interesting to think about for sure. Looking forward to continuing chatting is some discussion threads. They're going to be a regular 'start the week' thing soon, and people can dip is as we go through the week together.

Yes, it’s intriguing to consider that amongst the 30,000 days conversation being had here and elsewhere

I’m counting down to 90, 1410 more weeks. That’s going to become the majority of my life here at that point for sure

I’ll be brave. Hola, internet friends. I’m not on social media at the moment so it’s nice to find new ways to connect. Love your work, Sarb. Thanks for inviting us to engage. I’m a general manager by day and film photographer at heart. I also love running when my knees let me. Who’s around Wellington?

Hi Catarina - thanks for being brave and getting the ball rolling. Hope your knees are good and you are getting a little running in. Weather looks good for it in the next few days. I see you've already met my better half in the comments :)

Hi Catarina I’m also in Wellington. And have recently decided running is on hold for the foreseeable future as every time I try it triggers back or knee pain so walking for me. Looking forward to connecting with you all.

Kia ora koutou from Juliet. Recently nearly retired from education and counselling, I spend much of my time reading about, and experimenting with the exercise, food , brain relationship for holistic wellbeing and some of my time trying to complete my website about down to earth communication, (with assistance from the weka in my small garden sanctuary whose photos help to make points in a cheering way). I am really looking forward to being part of this community.

Hi! I just found Sarb through LWS. The comments are such a hard place to connect. I wonder when/if we'll ever adapt to this format? Anyway, nice to see lots of mental health folks here! I'm a neuroscientist turned podcaster, but I was very interested in the affective/limbic system wiring and architecture. Happy to be here!

Hey Natasha - thanks for coming across and joining in here too. Really appreciate your company here. As I posted to Adrian in the comments too, I think I might have a 'Start the Week' discussion thread soon and encourage people to connect through that as we travel through our days. Some company and shared tips / gems are always welcome as we journey together, right?

Hi everyone and Sarb, I'm Irish but I live in Austria at the moment. Ready for the next move to somewhere less land-locked. I'm an artist and a writer, and I do sessions with people to unearth their stories and do portraits that show them their light, power and strength.

Kia ora koutou, I've been following Sarb for a while on social media and I enjoy his morning photos on Twitter. Also loved his "voice of reason" on James Nokise's Eating Fried Chicken in the Shower podcast. I'm in Auckland, mainly riding a bicycle and drawing pictures. I go for early morning walks and listen to podcasts. Dammit they were right about mental health and exercise. And hi Catarina!

It is fun, and challenging

As are winter rides in CHC. Mostly commuting these days, work is more desk bound so no opportunity to cycle between four or five meetings a day: old age beckons.

How’s things up there with you and yours?
