Mōrena, I too have made some financial decisions maybe not huge ones this week (and actioned them). There was a lot of chatter on the radio (RNZ) last week, about people not having at least $5k in the bank to access immediately should an emergency arise.

The initial topic was the cost of living crisis in Aoteroa.

I emigrated to New Zealand in 2002 from the UK and promised myself that I would always have 3-5k in reserve should I need to go back immediately for family emergency’s. I have always stuck to this. Now I work for Air NZ International this will help immensely with flight options, however I have increased my monthly savings and my kiwi saver % contributions this week. I’m making hay while the sun shines. One never knows what’s around the corner, covid taught us that and for me personally UK ageing parents. Also I’ve cut out my daily bought coffee ($179 p/m) ok, maybe once a week as a treat. Friends over for dinner rather than going out.

There are savings everywhere without making life dull. It’s not forever but working well for now.

Amazing you’ve got that role with Air NZ to offer security and options. I used to work at Heathrow back in the day in various roles including security. and I’ve been thinking about that recently. Problem is that Wellington is a relatively small airport with limited options. Maybe when the kids are all old enough to be at school… lovely to hear from you.
