We need to start calling actions to reduce the spread and impact of SARS-CoV-2 "protections" rather than "restrictions". The narrative that these are personal "limitations" rather than personal and community "protections" is misguided. That the NSW "Health" minister, Mr. "Deadly" Hazzard, thinks wearing a mask is too onerous just indicates he should not be in that position of responsibility.
I do think we have let the balance slip and aren't being responsive enough to hazards when they arise. Or else we will act to late and fall back to a "we didn't know" narrative. You can't know, unless you collect the data, and then use it to decide upon appropriate protective action.
Absolutely, and what's unacceptable is the intentional failure to collect this data in order to downplay the risk, especially when we had the systems to do this.
